Getting Apps on Your iPad (Students, Parents & Teachers)

School iPads are managed, so apps come from a few specific places. Find your situation below.

Students: installing school apps

Apps for your classes are in the Mosyle School app, which is already on your iPad.

  1. Open the Mosyle School app.
  2. Find the app you need and tap Install.

If your teacher says an app was added for your class but it's not on your iPad, check the Mosyle School app first. It's usually there waiting to be installed.

Students: "My app disappeared!"

  • During the school day: some apps are hidden during school hours and come back after 3 PM.
  • After moving up a grade: apps can change when you move to a new grade. Check the Mosyle School app. If an app you still need isn't there, submit a ticket with the app name.
  • Messages and FaceTime: Messages is turned off for middle school students, and FaceTime is only available outside school hours.
  • Drawing apps like Procreate: save your best work to Google Drive or iCloud regularly. If the app has to be reinstalled, work saved only inside the app can be lost.

Parents: adding non-school apps

Parents can add extra apps, such as games, music, or streaming apps, at go.vcschools.org/appletree. For step-by-step instructions, see the Parent Guide to iPads.

Teachers: requesting an app for your class

Submit a ticket with:

  • The exact app name, plus an App Store link if you have one
  • Which classes or students need it
  • Whether students need it during the school day

Once it's assigned, students install it from the Mosyle School app. Students who join the class later can get it there too.

Please note:

  • Some apps need a paid license. For example, some Adobe apps are licensed only for students in Graphic Arts classes.
  • Apps that show unfiltered content from other users, such as CapCut, aren't added for whole classes. Parents can still add them through AppleTree.
